Turismo costero, planificación turística y el conflicto de las demoliciones en el Caribe Sur de Costa Rica

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la planificación turística y el conflicto de las demoliciones en el Caribe Sur de Costa Rica, dentro del contexto global del desarrollo del turismo costero y de la reconfiguración espacial de un destino turístico. El trabajo estudia las relaciones desiguales de poder entre los diferentes actores del desarrollo turístico (Estado, Municipalidad, “comunidad”, empresarios, etc.), en la lucha por el control de un espacio turístico. Al mismo tiempo, el trabajo examina la relación que existe entre turismo, lugar y poder con el fin de entender la necesidad de empoderamiento de las comunidades locales para alcanzar un turismo sostenible.

This article analyses tourism planning and the land rights conflict in South Caribbean Costa Rica, within the context of global coastal tourism development and power relationships. The study attempts to understand the conflict as part of the broader spatial reconfiguration of a tourist destination and the uneven relationships between power and interests (state, municipality, local organizations, the community, and entrepreneurs) in the struggle to control a “tourism space”. The research examines the relationship between tourism, place and power and the demands of the communities as a means of realizing sustainable tourism development.
