Durante los últimos años el multilateralismo no ha atravesado su mejor momento debido al interés de algunos países de tomar y ejecutar decisiones desde su perspectiva unilateral y no atendiendo a los compromisos contraídos en el plano regional o internacional con socios y con organizaciones multilaterales. No obstante, lo anterior, la pandemia global que vive el mundo producto de la Covid-19 ha puesto de manifiesto la necesidad de recurrir al multilateralismo como espacio colectivo para resolver los problemas globales, cuya solución no depende de la actuación y competencia de un solo Estado. Así, la región centroamericana y su sistema de integración regional enfrenta importantes desafíos y responsabilidades que debe atender tanto en sus relaciones intra y extrarregionales como en su ámbito de cooperación horizontal, sobre todo en su estructura organizacional para robustecer, consolidar e incrementar la eficiencia del sistema de instancias ejecutivas, técnicas y de coordinación que atienden los diversos subsistemas. Esta ponencia pretende identificar algunos de los principales retos y responsabilidades de las organizaciones regionales y del multilateralismo en general en el sistema de integración centroamericana en la pospandemia.

In recent years, multilateralism has not gone through its best moment due to the interest of some countries in making and executing decisions from their unilateral perspective and not taking into account the commitments made at the regional or international level with partners and multilateral organizations. Notwithstanding the above, the global pandemic that the world is experiencing as a result of Covid-19 has revealed the need to resort to multilateralism as a collective space to solve global problems, the solution of which does not depend on the action and competence of a single State. Faced with the aforementioned scenario, the Central American region and its regional integration system face important challenges and responsibilities that it must address both in its intra and extra-regional relations and in its field of horizontal cooperation, especially in its organizational structure to strengthen, consolidate and increase the efficiency of the system of executive, technical and coordination instances that serve the various subsystems. It is because of the above that the presentation aims to identify some of the main challenges and responsibilities of regional organizations and multilateralism in general in the Central American integration system in the post-pandemic.
