The city of Barranquilla, capital of the department of Atlántico, is known as the "Golden Gate of Colombia" through which progress entered the country, through the Puerto Colombia Pier and the Magdalena River. Economic development is linked to the growth of the port and the industrial sector that sits on the banks of the Magdalena River, making this tributary invisible. As a result of industrialization, the city grew urbanistically and socially behind the river, changing the uses and customs of the inhabitants, losing the connection with it. There were several community and private company initiatives to face Magdalena again. This is how a project with political will begins: in 2016 the opening of the first phase of the "Gran Malecón del Río" is made, which as of the fourth quarter of 2020 has been built 2.5 km. Today that reunion of the Barranquilla with the river is a reality, the project is one of the most loved by the citizens, it has allowed to evoke the golden age of the city and the river, to contemplate the landscape that did not exist before, to promote the practice of recreational activities , sports and cultural and even become the most important tourist attraction.
