The objective of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the size of the Agricultural Productive Unit - UPA and the yield of the land in the departments of La Guajira and the "Tierra Caliente" of Cesar dedicated to agrifood from the characterization of the productive area and the identification of the concentration of land. These departments were chosen due to weather conditions: most of the productive area is below 800 meters above sea level (masl). In this work, data from the National Agricultural Census CNA - 2014 were used to construct variables such as: land yield, dominant crop, permanent people, advice, technical assistance, natural phenomena, self-consumption and for the characterization of the Agricultural Productive Unit - UPA in these departments. The present study also includes an analysis from the departmental socioeconomic context and that of the production of agrifoods in Colombia, which implied delving into the theoretical framework and the state of the art on the impacts on the yield of the land produced by phenomena of aridity and variety. of the weather. In the previous case, it was possible to conclude that these climatic phenomena are scarcely treated, since there is interest in delimiting the analyzes to the inverse relationship between the size of the plots and the yield, as occurs in the studies of Africa, India and South America. Finally, the results obtained from the log-log regression model are presented, which allowed to show the inverse relationship of these departments, despite the fact that La Guajira is a territory with a hot and dry climate at sea level, a part of the population lives off the sowing of different crops and through the results obtained, we want to verify that there is an inverse relationship between size and yield due to imperfections in the input market or the misallocation of resources between the different sizes of the UPAs. identified with the Zone variable (High, medium and low Guajira) and finally, the final reflections will be presented according to the results obtained in post of a continuous improvement in the use of the soil, cultivation techniques, advice and assistance.
