    Empatía, cine y emoción: el involucramiento empático del espectador ante la pantalla

    lntroduction: Empathizing is a fundamental capacity at the basis of social cognition amongst humans; it allows to recognize and interpret the emotion and intentions of others from our own systems of neuronal, sensorimotor and víscera-motor representations, in different areas of vital experience (1). This applies equally to virtual and fiction scenarios such as cinema (2). This scenario adds a key element to the comprehension/understanding of human empathic engagement: narrativity, understood both as the structure of cinematic story, and as the mental process that links, gives meaning and legitimacity to the observed events (3). Objective: Describe the empathic engagement of the viewer when exposed to a film, taking into account the on neurophysiological, dispositional and subjective aspects of the individual. Materials and methods: A triangulation of techniques was designed. During the visualization of a short film, an electrophysiological record was made, measuring cardiac pulse amplitude and skin conductance. A test (IRI) was applied to evaluate affective and cognitive empathy and an open structured interview was latter performed. The sample consisted of 49 university students, men and women from 18 to 25 years. Results: Statistical analyzes show that the empathic disposition of the cognitive component seems to tave an effect on pulse amplitude and the affective component seems to have effect on the skin conductance. The intensity of fluctuation of the physiological variables seems to converge with the moments of greater connection or greater subjective empathy expressed during the short film. This could suggest an emerging hypothesis: the processes of narration not only occur at mental and verbal level is, but could be traceable at the physiological level.
